1. SMART Goals:
Many people never accomplish their goals because they are vague one way to address this is to use the SMART method, which you can learn about here. SMART goal stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Even those who do set SMART goals often fail to track their progress. Shockingly, statistics show that 60-80% of people abandon their New Year’s resolutions by February. Let’s change that and make you one of the few who keeps their promises to themselves.
2. Skyrocket Your Goals By Creating Urgency

Consider this: your goals will take as much time as you give them. Think about how you often accomplish tasks when you’re under pressure. This means if you take a yearly goal and make it a 16 week goal you will likely obtain it with the proper resources and discipline. I’ve personally found that to be true. A book called “The 12-Week Year” opened my eyes to this concept. If you are anything like me and love to doodle while reading there is a workbook titled the 12 Week Year Field guide. Another tool that I recommend to make things more tangible, is a large wall calendar like the one in here to track your progress; it’s a game-changer. Of course if that one is too big for you there are many others on Amazon to choose from but considering it is the end of the year I would make sure that it is a dry erase calendar that way you can mark it up and erase for the next year.
3. Breaking Down Your Goals:
Rather than establishing a broad, one-year objective, it’s more effective to divide it into smaller, achievable milestones. Personally, I don’t typically set goals for 5 or 10 years down the line because circumstances tend to change over such long periods. My concept of long-term planning extends to a maximum of 2 years. Although I have a rough notion of where I’d like to be a decade or two from now, I anticipate that my future self will have different aspirations than my current self.
I recommend breaking your goals into manageable segments with realistic yet challenging deadlines. These milestones should be close enough to generate excitement. Personally, a goal that I set for one year from now doesn’t stir much excitement, but one that I can achieve in 90 days truly motivates me. This gradual approach aligns your short-term objectives with your long-term vision, ensuring that you remain on course.
4. Weekly and Daily Goals:
As you progress, your attention will naturally shift towards what must be accomplished in the immediate short term, specifically within the span of this week and, even more crucially, today. Again, employing the SMART-method for your weekly goal, and implementing a checklist for your daily objectives, becomes paramount. This meticulous, step-by-step approach serves as both a pillar of accountability and a wellspring of motivation, ensuring that you stay firmly on course towards your ultimate aspirations.
5. Areas You May Want to See Progress In:
I’m a firm believer in taking a holistic approach when it comes to setting goals because certain core elements of life can significantly impact all our other plans. However, I also subscribe to the notion that you can achieve various things in life, but perhaps not simultaneously. While you may be aggressively taking action in one are another area you might be neglecting another. To help you prioritize what matters most in your current season, consider the following fundamental pillars of life:
a. Health: Imagine your ideal state of health. How does it feel? How does your body look? Your health is the foundation of your overall well-being.
b. Emotions: Consider how your emotions influence your quality of life. What consistent emotions would you like to experience daily?
c. Family and Community: Building strong relationships is essential for fulfillment and success. Envision your ideal family and community life.
d. Intimate Relationship: A thriving intimate relationship often leads to a more harmonious life. How do you want to connect with your partner daily?
e. Professional Life: What does your ideal day look like in terms of your career or business? Be specific about your projects and accomplishments.
f. Financial Stability: Financial stress can be a major roadblock. Imagine your ideal financial situation and the peace it would bring.
g. Spiritual Life: Regardless of your beliefs, are you living in alignment with your convictions? Strive for congruence with your inner beliefs.
