Let’s Get Personal

I vividly remember the day I had to present my future law practice business plan over Zoom. It was a nerve-wracking experience that pushed me to my limits. This presentation marked a pivotal moment in my journey towards unshakeable Confidence. Let me take you through my story and explore why Confidence is a game-changer in life.

The Turning Point:

As the presentation day drew near, I was plagued by a nagging feeling that my original business plan wasn’t right. I was struck by a burst of inspiration related to artificial intelligence. Without wasting any time, I contacted my professor, who had been reviewing our business plans throughout the semester. I expressed my desire to change my entire plan and presentation. Her response, although discouraging at the time, held a valuable lesson. She advised me to take a breath and not act out of panic.

The Rush to Redemption:

I took her advice to heart, but I decided to change it with only three days to completely overhaul my business plan, create presentation slides, gather data, and prepare concise talking points. We were heading into finals week, adding another layer of stress to the mix. My presentation could have gone better. I stumbled over my words, my slides were chaotic, and there was even a technical glitch. It was a disaster, and the entire class witnessed it.

The Aftermath:

Despite this epic Failure, I didn’t let it define me. I accepted that I had messed up but didn’t dwell on it. Thanks to my revamped business plan, I moved forward, refocused, and eventually earned an A in the class. This experience taught me something invaluable: unshakeable Confidence.

The Importance of Confidence:

Now, let’s delve into why Confidence is a vital attribute to possess:

  1. Unshakeable Confidence Defined: Confidence isn’t about being extroverted, having an outgoing personality, or being perfect. It’s not about looks, intelligence, self-esteem, competition, or arrogance. True Confidence, is built on resourcefulness and creativity. It’s about tackling challenges head-on and making the most of any situation.
  2. Self-Belief, Not Vulnerability: Confidence is not vulnerable to the opinions of teachers, friends, or anyone else. It’s about staying resilient and seeking resources to propel yourself forward. It’s unwavering self-assuredness. It means believing in yourself, regardless of external influences.
  3. Embracing Nervousness and Fear:  Being confident doesn’t mean you do not experience nervousness, apprehension, or fear. It coexists with these emotions. You can feel a surge of confidence while still experiencing butterflies in your stomach; it is not the absence of fear; it’s the courage to move forward despite it.

Developing Unshakeable Confidence:

Confidence is not an inherent trait; it’s a skill anyone can cultivate. Here’s how you can develop it:

  1. Embrace Failure as a Learning Opportunity: Understand that Failure is not the end; it’s a stepping stone to success. Every Failure teaches you something valuable if you’re willing to learn. Failure is an essential part of growth.
  2. Be Resourceful: Resourcefulness is a critical component of Confidence; knowing you can solve problems, even when they seem impossible.
  3. Comparison is the Enemy of Confidence: Don’t play small by comparing yourself to others. Recognize that you create your reality; no one can take that power away from you. My fellow scorpion and former president Theodore Roosevelt stated, “comparison is the thief of joy.”
  4. Competence vs. Confidence: Competence is different having degrees or excelling in a particular field equates to competence not confidence. Confidence it is about believing in your abilities and embracing challenges. Its choosing to say kind and encouraging words to yourself.

While developing this muscle it is essential to seek guidance and inspiration from experts in the field. Brian Tracy’s book, ‘The Power of Self-Confidence,’ guided me through my journey; it offers invaluable insights into this topic. I highly recommend reading this book if you’re interested in delving deeper into the subject and exploring practical strategies.

Conclusion:

I highly encourage you to embrace this transformative skill that will empower you to face life’s challenges with resilience and self-assuredness. It’s not about eliminating fear but about acknowledging it and pressing forward. So, remember, Confidence is a journey, not a destination. Embrace, develop, and watch as it enriches your life in ways you never thought possible.
